State of the fist: May 2013

For a proposed quarterly item, I have been doing a poor job of keeping up with this series, haven't I? So... Working on a schedule to keep myself on track with these things, and hopefully I won't fall too far behind again. As of right now, my next one is hopefully going to end up in July, and then follow quarterly after that. In the meantime, let's jump into this edition, as I catch you up to date with where we are. As always, read on after the jump.

EDITORIAL: Frank's Addiction to the MMOs

In the past, I have mentioned, at least I hope I have, that I have a long-standing love-hate relationship with the world of MMORPGs. I have played a few of them, some I visited in depth, and others I kinda just drove through, and checked out the scenery and then left without so much as a second thought. And I have learned a lot about life, and the pursuit of fetch quests. So, if you will indulge me, as I wait for the release of Iron Man 3, I'd like to take you into the depths of my madness. Follow me, after the jump to see just why I keep coming back to these horrific realms of digital crack.

EDITORIAL: Slamfist- 2013

So, 2013 is well underway, and the zombie apocalypse that I was promised never came to fruition, which means that Slamfist Media is still here, and we are indeed still alive. Life has a way of getting in the way of doing the things you love, but I'm here to tell you that we are still working, and we will have things to show you in the future. For a little more information, hit the jump, and delve into some of my goals for 2013.

EDITORIAL: Franks Picks

After my recent Holiday post, I thought that lists such as that might become a regular thing for me, if I can come up with the proper inspiration. Then recently, while I was talking with some friends, a topic came up that just screamed inspiration, "Worst Superhero Movies". I said to myself, this is the type of thing that just lends itself to a blog post, and I figured I'd get right on it. So armed with some caffeine, and a couple episodes of "Angel" playing in the background, read on after the jump for my list of the worst Superhero Movies of all time!

EDITORIAL: Frank's Obligatory Holiday Post

Before you get into reading this, it is worth noting, that I do not much care for the "holiday season". In fact, one might go so far as to say I hate it. If you're seeking some happy jolly holiday post, seek it elsewhere. If instead, you want to read about what I think the best "holiday" movies are, then please, read on after the jump.

EDITORIAL: The Evil Dead Remake

I was originally going to make this a review of the trailer, and in the end my thoughts on the trailer will still be included, however I figured it would be a disservice to the readers to write an entire post on just a review of a minute and a half of random scenes. Instead, what I will do, is give my thoughts on the movie as a whole, and why I am either excited, indifferent, or outright opposed to the very concept of this movie. Read on, and find out what I have to say after the jump.

EDITORIAL: DC- The New 52, 1 year later.

I'll admit that this post comes later than I had originally intended. I will admit as well that there is 0 reason for this lapse on my part. No seriously, the reason for the lateness is the ass-hattery that was the Zero Month, an entire month where DC decided to give the finger to conventional numbering systems, and throw some rather pointless stories at us that I frankly couldn't care less about. But other than this stupidity, has their little experiment been a boon, or a failed marketing gimmick? My answer and more after the jump.

Beware, I swear a lot. If strong language offends you read no further.

EDITORIAL: The Borderlands 2 Saga or, The Tale of the Empty Hands

Some of you may recall, that earlier in the year, I put out a list of the 5 games I am looking forward to the most this year. For those that don't remember, the list was (in no particular order) Resident Evil 6, Kingdoms of Amalur, Diablo 3, Mass Effect 3, and finally.... Borderlands 2. Of these 5 games, 4 have shipped. The last of the three shipped just last week, and that is the reason I have decided to write this post. I would not go so far as to call this an editorial, although I will label it as such. This is more along the lines of a partial psychotic break, and my attempt to put it into words. How bad can it get? Find out after the jump

EDITORIAL: What I Can & Cannot Forgive About 'The Dark Knight Rises'

Let me say this. I adore this film. I place it above Batman Begins and below The Dark Knight. The only reason why I feel the need to write this is because every time someone is so surprisingly shocked why “I had a few problems” with it, I had to explain it. Now I can just point them to a blog post; being both convenient and informative. Let me warn you that there are MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD; so don’t jump if you’re not ready. And if you think this will make you mad, just bugger off and don’t read it at all.

Editorial: Safety, Security, and a very dark night.

Yes, it's me again. It happens every so often, that a news event so moves me, that I have to weigh in, and while I strive to never make this blog my personal soapbox, I feel that I can't just sit back and say nothing. I want to make it very clear, my thoughts are my own. They do NOT necessarily reflect the thoughts of the rest of the Slamfist team. So, if you will indulge me for a few moments, I want to toss my two cents in on the Colorado tragedy, if you wish to avoid reading about it, don't read any further. For those that want to see my thoughts, continue on after the jump.

Brave: The Pre-Game Show

I want to make it clear, this is not my review for Brave, this is more of just my thoughts going into things. Due to my work schedule, and my desire to get at least some semblance of "sleep", I will be unable to see the film until at least Saturday, I think... But hey, if I am unable to get that sleep today, I will be there, braving the Friday crowd, to see one of my most anticipated non-superhero films of the Summer. So, read on my faithful readers, and see me describe my love/hate relationship with the animation giant known as Pixar.

Editorial: Welcome to the New Office

Part 2 of my replies to ideas from the community in regards to new post ideas. I think that getting my followers as well as my Facebook fans involved in the process really helps things out, and makes this a more interactive endeavor. So, keep them coming, and I might try and make this a weekly effort. A sort of "fan questions" sort of experience. Leave me an idea for something to write about, and I will strive to write about it, even if I have no clue what to say! Leave ideas in the comments, on Twitter, or on Facebook. You can even email me, my Gmail account is Slamfiststudios .

So let me discuss the new office, after the Jump.

Editorial: The Zombie Apocalypse?

So, recently, between the move to the new office, and my obsession with Ron Stone, I haven't had much time at all to write. In an effort to offer up something non-fictional, I put out feelers to our Facebook and Twitter followers, seeking input. So, rather than just write one post chosen from multiple ideas, I thought I would try writing about ANY idea that came my way. So this begins yet another effort to write based on community input!

Follow on after the jump!

Netflix Round Up: The Great Buffy Rewatch (Part 1)

In an effort to keep my sanity during trying times, I often turn to familiar relics of the past. Sometimes it is a book, other times a game, often times it is a movie or TV show. If you've read the blog to this point, I'm sure you know that we tend to be fans of Joss Whedon. Which is why, in the midst of the obtaining of new Slamfist office, I turned to a tried and true favorite to take my mind off of some of the stress.

So, I have begun "The Great Buffy Rewatch". This post will cover seasons 1 and 2. Future posts will likely only cover 1 season. So read on, as I revisit one of the most influential TV series's of my High School and college years.

Mass Effect 3: Final thoughts

So, I made it well known that on my list of most anticipated games for the year, there was one that stood above the others in my mind for MOST anticipated. That game, was Mass Effect 3. Now I have played the game, and have made it to the end. I have seen the journey's end, if you will, and I have let it simmer in my head. I wanted to avoid any knee-jerk reactions to a game that should have hands down blown away the competition. But, did it live up to the hype, or did it leave me questioning my love of video games?

Let's find out...

Be warned. If you read further, there will be spoilers. I can't help it. They will be there. If you're OK with that, then read on good readers.

Editorial: Crowd-funding.

There are times when a concept or idea strikes me as exceedingly important, and I find that I just have to discuss it at some length. At such times, Twitter is no longer an option and the Facebook page seems ill-suited to the task as well. At such times, I see a blog post in the making. This is one of those concepts.

Horrorhound Weekend Columbus 2012

Tyler Mane and Me

I am writing this up, as a way to post my thoughts on the convention in general. It was the first convention that we have been to since we adopted the Slamfist name, and hopefully it will not be the last. While we had no reason, nor did we have the means to try to get ourselves a table, we did have the time to go there, and a willingness to soak in the sort of strange extended family that these conventions seem to foster.

After the jump, I share my thoughts and feelings on the convention. Be warned, this one might be particularly picture heavy.
