REVIEW: 'Star Trek: Into Darkness' (Brandon's Take)

REVIEW: 'Iron Man 3'

Most sane men in my position, would be in bed right now, wrestling with their dreams, rather than wrestling with words. But, if there is one thing I will never lay claim to, it is sanity. In a brief moment of clarity, I will say that I opted for a 9:00 showing, rather than the more traditional midnighter, but in the end... My work must go on, and I promised a review, and dammit all, I plan to deliver.

So recently, Someone posted on Facebook, that Birdemic was getting a sequel, and after a brief moment sitting in the corner weeping inconsolably, I said to myself, "I have finally found definitive proof, that there is no god." REVIEW: Oz, The Great and Powerful

Well, another movie off my most anticipated list, and we're still in March. This time, it is a piece by the wonderful Sam Raimi, who has brought such wonderful movies as "The Evil Dead", "Spider-Man", and to a lesser extent, "Drag me to Hell". Any time I see that name, it is automatically added to the list of movies that I HAVE to see. So when I saw that Sam Raimi was attached to a prequel of sorts to "The Wizard of Oz", naturally I knew that I had to see it. REVIEW: The Dark Knight Returns: Part 1 and 2

The Dark Knight Returns is a two-part animated movie by DC, based off of Frank Miller's acclaimed graphic novel. And before I start reviewing these movies in this post I’d just like to point out that I am very happy they split this into two movies. As opposed to The Hobbit, where splitting such a small book into three six hour movies makes no sense. But anyway... On to the review.

REVIEW: Jack the Giant Slayer

So, I was sitting around staring at my walls, trying to come up with an idea for a blog post, so that I could fulfill my "one every two weeks" promise. I pondered some short fiction, an editorial of some variety, and then I said, "To hell with it, I'll review a movie". Naturally, this started off a long internal debate over WHAT movie to see, and in the end, I decided to go and see Jack the Giant Slayer. I didn't do this out of some strong desire to see the movie, but because I had seen Bryan Singer show up on a recent episode of Face-off. So, it was due to that, I found myself in the local theater, pondering whether or not this was a good idea.

REVIEW: A Good Day to Die Hard

Fulfilling two promises with one post, because I like to be efficient like that. Granted, the promises I am fulfilling are only from my last two posts, but.... Meh. First up on my list of most anticipated films, you may recall, was a certain sequel to a franchise near and dear to my heart. A certain action flick that has actually been mentioned in two of my recent lists. So, it was a bit of a no-brainer that I wanted to see this film. When looking for movie showtimes, and seeing the ratings this got on Rotten Tomatoes, I very nearly changed my mind. EDITORIAL: Franks Picks

After my recent Holiday post, I thought that lists such as that might become a regular thing for me, if I can come up with the proper inspiration. Then recently, while I was talking with some friends, a topic came up that just screamed inspiration, "Worst Superhero Movies". I said to myself, this is the type of thing that just lends itself to a blog post, and I figured I'd get right on it. So, we've been doing this for almost a year now, and by now you're probably thinking, "Frank, do you actually like movies? Or is this some massive plot for you to bitch about anything and everything?" It's true, lately it seems like I rarely leave the theater with a smile on my face. Most times, I am holding back the urge to drink heavily to wipe away the memories of the cinematic atrocity that I have just been witness to. I tell you now, that I have no urge to drink, and dammit, there is a huge smile on my face. And yet again, you get to see the writings of a happy Frank. Read on for more, after the jump.

REVIEW- Silent Hill: Revelation

I'm so sorry that I have chosen yet another bad movie. I should have known, considering the fact that the movie was based on a video game, that there was a 99.99% chance that this was going to be soul-crushingly bad, but I went in, I watched, and now I can cry myself to sleep, seeing one of my favorite scary games, turned into... this. EDITORIAL: The Evil Dead Remake

I was originally going to make this a review of the trailer, and in the end my thoughts on the trailer will still be included, however I figured it would be a disservice to the readers to write an entire post on just a review of a minute and a half of random scenes. Instead, what I will do, is give my thoughts on the movie as a whole, and why I am either excited, indifferent, or outright opposed to the very concept of this movie. REVIEW: Paranormal Activity 4, or... Paranormal INactivity

...Actually scarier than 99.9% of the film. Seriously.

There are times in life, that I wonder if perhaps, I have some kind of death wish. If I am perhaps watching all of these shitty movies, in some subconscious effort to ruin my will to live. Sure, I could read other people's reviews of the film before venturing out to see the film, but I worry that the reviews would potentially color my own views. Thus, I place myself in a review-free bubble if it is a movie I plan on reviewing. So many times, I end up kicking myself for my desire to give an unbiased review.... REVIEW: 'Argo' - Tensionism

So a representative reached out to me and asked if I would like to attend an early press screening of Ben Affleck's new directorial/starring feature, "Argo". It's based off the declassified Iranian event that took place in between 1979 and 1980 when a group of American diplomats, working within their embassy, fled due to local rioting. Also known at the time as the great "Canadian Caper". Of course I went, because 1.) It's Free! 2.) It's a drama that I was planning to see anyway! and 3.) It's FREE! So far Ben Affleck's ability to capture honest portrayals of drama has always been refreshing... even though it only comes around about once every 2 to 3 years. When he directed his brother in "Gone, Baby, Gone"; it was an incredible debut. When he shot something closer to his setting like 2010's "The Town", he won me over again (more so visually but you know)... now let me tell you how he did with Argo, after the jump.

REVIEW: 'Looper' - & What Makes a Good Time Travel Movie Possible

As the great Doctor would say, time travel is a "oh, wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey..." sort of thing. That quote can be inserted into just about every conversation about time travel that has ever been discussed. It basically means, "it's all these sorts of things and situations which can overlap but not and still make sense without anyone including the narrator comprehending it. It can be confusing." Most of the time it's an excuse to get away with a story without much, if any, sure footing or premise. I'm about to tell you how Rian Johnson's Looper does more than just redefine a genre, but creates a foundation that anyone can understand.

DVD REVIEW: Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical

Well, I'm going to get a few things out of the way from the beginning. I am a lover of theatrical productions, and can appreciate the odd musical here and there. Yeah, It's weird, but what can I say, I like music, and I like theater, so liking musical theater doesn't seem too far of a stretch, right?

So, why then would I choose this movie to be my first DVD review? Well... it is because of this film that I went back and watched Veronica Mars. Not to mention one of the actors in this film happens to have a voice that is practically synonymous with my childhood.

REVIEW: The Expendables 2 or Testosterone Overload: The Movie

Yeah, I'm still trying to do reviews, and I decided that I just needed an outright brainless shoot-em-up flick, that I can judge on nothing artistic whatsoever. And honestly, even though it kind of shames me to admit it, I kinda enjoyed the first one. So once more, I decided to dive into Stallone's throw-back 80's action flick, to see if he can outdo the original, or if like the title, this film will just be ... expendable. EDITORIAL: What I Can & Cannot Forgive About 'The Dark Knight Rises'

Let me say this. I adore this film. I place it above Batman Begins and below The Dark Knight. The only reason why I feel the need to write this is because every time someone is so surprisingly shocked why “I had a few problems” with it, I had to explain it. Now I can just point them to a blog post; being both convenient and informative. Let me warn you that there are MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD; so don’t jump if you’re not ready. And if you think this will make you mad, just bugger off and don’t read it at all.

We live in a world full of hype, opinions are formed well in advance of the film even hitting the theater. Fanboy fanaticism rules the day, and we are all subjected to countless hours of speculation, conjecture, and outright fabrication, as things are built from a single ember to a full blown conflagration. As the flames rise, and the day of release gets closer, things stop being subjective, and turn toward the superlative. That was the atmosphere, when I finally got to see “The Dark Knight Rises.” I rode in on the waves of “This is going to be the greatest movie ever”, and when I left the theater, was it on those same waves, or had the tide gone out?
